"I saw ‘Purgatory’ in Macedonia"

We had our first team of volunteers travel to Macedonia, one of the poorest countries in Europe, to build houses alongside low-income families. A group of 12 students from Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Education University experienced construction work for the first time – passing bricks, bending rebar, mixing cement. The most unforgettable experience for them was when they passed by a urban slum: Carlos, from EduHK, described the scene as ‘purgatory’, seeing families living in collapsed shelters right next to mountains of garbage, as if in an abandoned place where no one cares.

Opening hours: 10am – 6pm

Kerala needs your help!
Kerala, located in the southern part of India, has been affected by severe floods, due to torrential rains in August. They have been described as the worst to hit Kerala since 1924, with more than 400 people killed and three million families affected. Habitat India responded to the disaster and supported more than 70,000 families within 20 days. However, there is still so much more to be done, and Habitat will continue to support families to rebuild.

Energizing students with painting
A team of volunteers, including some from John Swire & Sons, visited SKH Tang Siu Kin Secondary School to paint murals together with students. Not only did they leave behind a colourful and energetic environment, but memorable moments for the volunteers and students. Thank you!
