Dear Colleagues,
The automotive industry is currently at the beginning of a major change. Driven by autonomous driving and connectivity, the classic vehicle is transformed into a software-defined IoT device. Personalization, connectivity and mobility-as-a-service are becoming more and more important for end customers and classic features such as driving performance drift into the background. The amount of software in the vehicle will continue to increase, as will its complexity. The underlying software of a modern vehicle contains approximately 150 million lines of code. Functional Safety and Security create additional requirements for the software architectures of the future. The connection to the Internet (cloud) makes it possible to bring new services into the vehicle (mobility-as-a-service).
Due to the focus on these software-defined systems and business models, there is currently a change in the vehicle architecture from complex distributed systems to high-performance central and zonal architectures. Future platforms will communicate via service-oriented paradigms that allow flexible updating and localization. This transition allows IoT technologies to be transferred to the vehicle including the environment. In addition to scalability, these architectures have a focus on updating and upgrading capabilities. At the same time, they must meet the high demands on reliability and quality for use in automobiles.
This technological change also affects the supplier model in the automotive industry. New roles such as hardware, infrastructure software, software functional suppliers, and (software) systems integrator have to be created. These roles will be redistributed among current Tier1s, Tier2s, OEMs as well as new players. Software development is not finished with the SOP, but must be continued throughout the life cycle of the vehicle. Software developers are facing the challenge of converting their current product license model into a software qualification, maintenance and operation model.
The Elektrobit's Head of Portfolio Management Mr. Christoph Herzog will introduce the development of Scalable and Flexible Software-platform for High-performance ECUs at our upcoming the “Automotive E/E Architecture Technology China Conference (AEATC) 2018” that is going to be held on the 1st-2nd Nov. in Shanghai. His lecture deals with the requirements of a software platform for future vehicle architectures considering safety, security and connection to the internet. Special attention will be given to requirements for software development in the automotive industry, as well as to future cooperation models. At the same time the Manager Director of EB China Mr.Francis Man will accept media interview at the conference venue.
In addition, Dr. Wolfgang Bernhart, the Senior Partner of Roland Berger GmbH will also give a keynote speech on the topic of eMobility, Connectivity and Automated Driving: Impact on Future Vehicle E/E Architectures and the Industry, that will help you to understand the Drivers to change current E/E architectures; Current developments and approaches; Mid-term perspective: the car as an "IoT- device on wheels" ; Implications for OEMs: Core competences and transformation path; Implications for suppliers: Impact of OEM sourcing software and hardware separately
