On November 29 this year, a video was madly posted on the foreign video site "Reddit". In the video, a hacker who nicknamed "trsohmers" demonstrated the embedding of Ubuntu operating system on an external laptop with his own model 3. He played on the central control screen at the end of November. Musk's Space X launched the Falcon. Heavy rocket Youtube video. In early December, the hacker also announced that he had successfully entered the Model 3 MCU (Micro Control Unit) and disclosed the Model 3 hardware information for the first time.

Hacker trsohmers said that after breaking the MCU, he finally saw the hardware specifications of Model 3 and the latest batch of Model S/X infotainment computers:

▎ processor: Intel Atom E3950 (four core 1.6GHz);
▎ Storage: 4GB RAM (or DDR4) and 64GB eMMC;
▎ Gateway: Freescale/NXP QorIQ chip is placed on the motherboard;
▎ Autopilot assisted driving hardware: NVIDIA Tegra Parker and Pascal stand alone, placed on a separate board, connected by a cable harness.

Foreign media Electrek said in the tracking report: When he hacked into the core MCU, he did not choose to continue to break the Model 3 Autopilot assisted driving system, because there is still a "wall" that takes time and effort. Only once the wall is broken, the Model 3 remote-end driving can be realized through the embedded operating platform, and even the non-owner abnormal operation intervention system set by the Tesla software department can be skipped.

The hacker trsohmers has been researching Model 3, which has successfully cracked the new Tesla USA map module and implanted Spotify (a streaming music service platform) in the car. "Model 3 is difficult to break. According to us (hacker circle), only a few people can crack it," he said. In addition, he also said that he would like to attack the MCU thanks to another hacker, Ingineerix, who had previously cracked the Model 3 "factory model": "In fact, most of the credit goes to Ingineerix. He spent several months looking for initial vulnerabilities. It took me about a month to get a total of 100 hours to crack when I started working," he said.

As of December 18th, Tesla did not respond to the invasion, and Musk's Twitter did not mention the matter. The US electronics media said that the white-hat hacker and the hacker circle in his area are likely to continue to "study" Model 3 after the break. Will he break into the Autopilot system? Or is Tesla quietly preparing for OTA to send bug fixes? For the time being, although manufacturers can ensure that intruders do not affect smart car users on a large scale, the intrusion motives are mainly controlled by the discovery-solve-Bounty model, and smart car safety issues should be protected by national-level laws.
