China’s largest search engine company, Baidu on Sunday kicked off its self-driving taxi service—Apollo Go—in the districts of Haidian and Yizhuang, Beijing, moving to make robotaxis a reality as competitors like WeRide, Didi, and AutoX also test fleets on roads.
From October 10 to November 6, passengers can hail a robotaxi for free, which are FAW Hongqi electric vehicle (EV) models, through the Baidu Maps app or Apollo Go standalone app from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Currently, the cars can only drive along designated routes; there are 3 pick-up and drop-off spots in Haidian and 11 available in Yizhuang, where Baidu’s biggest autonomous vehicle test ground Apollo Park is based. A security driver still sits in the driver’s seat to monitor the ride but doesn’t intervene.

“The Apollo Go fleet is still expanding and available vehicles are limited. If it takes you a long time to get one, please forgive us,” reads a post about the robotaxis on the Baidu Maps app. On September 10, Baidu allowed people to reserve rides for its robotaxi service in Beijing to test a fleet of 40 vehicles, after registering nearly 519,000 kilometers of road testing in the capital city. The Apollo robotaxi service is also available in Changsha, in Hunan, and Cangzhou, in Hebei. The company last month also showcased its latest 5G-powered remote driving technology at Baidu World 2020, its annual flagship conference. “This means the vehicles can be fully driverless without assistance from an in-vehicle human security driver,” CEO Robin Li said. “Self-driving technology will enter the commercial stage on a large scale in 2025,” he predicted.

With the continuous advancement of autonomous driving products, the requirements for vehicle testing are also constantly changing-there are no more safety drivers on the test vehicle, and the testing process requires a high degree of automation and refinement to ensure that the scene is highly restored to investigate the subtleties of vehicle behavior Change, the closed test requires a highly automated and fully unmanned scenario.

In the upcoming the 3rd Annual China Autonomous Driving Testing & Validation Innovation Technology Conference" to be held on the 3rd  - 4 th Nov. 2020 . in Shanghai , Mr. Shengxiang Liu the Autonomous Driving Senior Technical Manager of Baidu  will introduce Baidu Apollo’s exploration and new breakthroughs in closed test technology for true unmanned driving, including the testing technologies of how to achieve closed scenario constructing automation, how to achieve 7*24 hours of uninterrupted closed testing, and how to ensure the safety of the testing process without man interference etc.

Presentation Topic" Driverless Autonomous Vehicle Closed Track- Testing and Validation Technology Development"

SpeakerShengxiang Liu, Autonomous Driving Senior Technical Manager, Baidu

Mr. Shengxiang Liu is currently the senior technical manager of Baidu's autonomous driving. He is in charge of autonomous driving testing, a member of the Beijing Autonomous Vehicle Road Testing Expert Committee, and a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of China Automotive Quality Technology Alliance. With more than 10 years of experience in the testing industry, Mr. Liu has established the Baidu autonomous driving test team, and also established a "Vertically layered, horizontally divided in stages" test system for autonomous driving based on the principle of "safety first", becoming the first complete and large-scale application and practice of automated driving test systems in the industry, including model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), vehicle-in-the-loop (VIL), and road environment-in-the-loop (RIL) testing system

Presentation Topic:Scenario Based Autonomous Driving Function Testing in Multi-HiL Environment"

For the system verification of modern autonomous driving features and autonomous driving assistance systems, currently dedicated secure test environments on road or additional complex environment simulation tools in the laboratory are needed for real time testing in the vehicle. This paper presents a new approach for AD\ADAS feature verification in a semi-virtual test laboratory environment based on real world driving scenarios. This approach, using a Virtual Test-Bed, allows an early verification of AD\ADAS features in a safe laboratory environment combined with real components or a whole vehicle by using existing testing facilities with a hardware-in-the loop system. The emulation of scenarios based on real vehicle measurement data allows in automatized way during the development an early verification of the system as well as an efficient re-calibration of existing variants based on real world scenarios.

Presentation Topic: "Analysis of Autonomous Driving Test Policies and Regulations
"
Autonomous driving road testing is an indispensable part of the development of the autonomous driving industry. Since 2018, local autonomous driving road test rules have been issued one after another. Some cities have even opened up more scenarios such as manned and loaded testing. These road tests While encouraging technological innovation, the rules also regulate autonomous driving road testing activities. This report provides an in-depth analysis of the policies and regulations of autonomous driving testing around the system and logic of autonomous driving road testing, specific regulations and policy requirements, and analysis of test vehicle traffic accidents.

Speaker He Shanshan is currently the Director of the Autonomous Driving Law Center of Intelligent Connected Vehicle Research Institute; the Head of the automobile and artificial intelligence business of Beijing Anli Partners; a member of the Autonomous Driving Law and Policy Expert Committee of the Ministry of Transport, and a member of the Beijing Autonomous Driving Expert Committee.

Presentation Topic:V2X Test Technology Solution

V2X is an important technical component of intelligent networked vehicles, which can realize low latency, large bandwidth, and highly reliable information sharing of vehicles, vehicles, roads, and vehicles. This report focuses on the testing requirements of V2X technology, testing technology, testing software and hardware solutions, and the introduction of the test scenario library from the shallower to the deeper. The content covers the automated test tools, the generation and management of test scenarios, and large-scale testing.
