Field trip along Stage 4 of the MacLehose Trail

Saturday, 7 February 2009

Leaders: Dr. Raynor Shaw and Dr. Bernie Owen

We are delighted to welcome Dr Bernie Owen and Dr Raynor Shaw, the co-authors of the authoritative guide to the MacLehose Trail, to lead another field trip. Dr. Shaw is a mapping geologist with the Hong Kong Geological Survey and Dr. Bernie Owen is a Professor of Geography.

Following several highly enjoyable geological walks, Dr. Shaw and Dr. Owen are leading a field trip along Stage 4 of the MacLehose Trail, lecturing on the geology, geomorphology, zoology, botany and history of the route during the day.

Stage 4 of the MacLehose trail is an enjoyable walk of moderate difficulty, with spectacular views of the wild countryside of the New Territories and other areas. The walk follows a ridge separating the Sai Kung countryside to the south from the Sha Tin valley and Tolo harbour to the North. The route offers distant mountain views and a wide variety of vegetation types which reflect altitudinal difference. The route goes by Ma On Shan, one of the highest mountains in Hong Kong, seeing high grasslands and fascinating weathering, finishing near Sai Kung. Further details are to be sent prior to the walk.

If you would like to join this walk, please would you complete and return the attached form initially by e-mail.
