We are delighted to welcome to Hong Kong Jeff Morgan, Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Global Heritage Fund. Established in 2002, the Global Heritage Fund is committed to saving the most significant and endangered cultural heritage sites in developing countries. It has completed projects in: Lijiang, Yunnan, China; Eastern Anatolia, Turkey; Vietnam; and Izborsk Fortress, Russia.

Uncontrolled urbanization, unplanned development and poor conservation are harming some of the world’s most important heritage sites. To mitigate the effects of looting, vandalism and neglect, major historic monuments, archaeological sites and ancient townscapes are in urgent need of new technical and financial support from private institutions, individuals and governments. Mr Morgan, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Global Heritage Fund, is first going to speak on the large-scale destruction of cultural heritage sites across Asia over the past decades.

He is then going to outline the Global Heritage Fund’s work in the region, including projects in: Shanxi, China; Karnataka, India; and Banteay Chhmar, Cambodia. Mr. Morgan is also going to introduce the Global Heritage Fund’s largest project in Asia, the newly-established Indus Heritage Centre in Baroda, India, that showcases the largest and oldest sites (2500 BC) and history of the Indus and Harappan civilizations.

Mr. Morgan is a trained urban and regional planner and holds a M.S. in Management from Stanford University and a B.S. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University. He co-founded the Global Heritage Fund in 2002 with Stanford University archeologist Dr. Ian Hodder, who is currently director of the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. Mr. Morgan is the author of “Saving Our Global Heritage”.
