Hello!

Finally the sky is clear and the sun is out! A lot has happened at Katterwall in the last month.  First and foremost, Kassia Women’s Choir made their debut performance in New York at Lincoln Center with 200 singers from around the world marking International Women’s Day. Bethan, our musical director, has written a note about the tour below.

Closer to home, Kassia Women’s Choir completed another successful performance ‘Honky Tonk Women 2’ at our favourite venue, Sheung Wan Civic Centre on 1st April.  Thanks to all our fans that turned up with cowboy hats and boots - it was a lot of fun!

Easter is coming up.  If you haven’t arranged any activities for your children yet, please have a look at our Easter programmes.  I am sure you will find something to keep them entertained and singing.

Yours

General Manager , Katterwall

Kassia Women’s Choir @ New York

Last month 30 members of Kassia Women's Choir took part in a 200 voice massed-choir performance at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (NYC). Women's choirs from Australia, Germany, Brazil, Hong Kong, Canada and America presented "Lust & La Femme Mystique" a programme of contemporary music celebrating International Women's Day. The music was significantly outside of our usual remit (no Burt Bacharach to be seen!) but our singers rose to the challenge, doing themselves, the choir and me proud.

It was our first performance outside of Hong Kong and was well received by the critics: "Beautiful sounds, with excellent diction, and near perfect intonation. Clearly these women and their conductors were dedicated to this music, and the music was worthy of their labors." [NY Concert Review]

The concert was put on by Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) who did an excellent job in putting the show together. In fact, we are already signed up for our next New York appearance – this November for “Messiah Refreshed” – another massed voice performance including a full symphony orchestra.

We are inviting singers from any choir in Hong Kong to get involved. Please
drop Celia a line for more details.
