Hello!  We're back into full swing after the summer here at Katterwall.

Last week we had our 3rd and 4th Summer Fling concerts of the season. Both concerts were very well attended and I'm pleased to report that the raffle in aid of Hong Kong Refugee Advice Centre raised $8,250 - our largest summer sum yet! Thank you to everyone who came and supported.

Auditions are taking place for our brand new Katterwall Youth Music Theatre programme, launching later this month. After the success of Andrew's original musical A Spell For Lunch over the summer, he will be running weekly musical theatre classes for 13 - 18 year olds looking to improve their musical theatre singing and acting. See below for more details.

Three regular groups: Hullaballoo for 5 - 8 year olds, Singin'SKool for 9 - 12 year olds and Singing Circle for adults have started. There's still time to sign up, simply drop us a line - we'd love to hear from you!

A date for the diary: on 25th and 26th November, six of Katterwall's teachers (including yours truly) will be presenting a Vocal Recital at Sheung Wan Civic Centre's Lecture Hall. More details to come next month.

The first week of October will be the start of rehearsals for Kassia Choirs 'Tis The Season. Members of the men and women's choirs will work together for the entire 10 weeks to put on this half traditional, half gospel show. Auditions with me are happening in the next week or so in case you're tempted!

IN FOCUS: Katterwall Youth Music Theatre with Andrew Swift
Not just another afterschool activity!

On-going Musical Theatre workshops for ages 13-18.  K. Y. M.T. will focus on:
  • Musical Theatre numbers from different eras
  • Devising new musical theatre work
  • Improving vocal and acting technique
  • Learning about audiotin / exam preparation
The first round of audition is just finished.  We are pleased to see some keen young singers who are interested to work with us.  In the future, our aim is to build an elite youth musical theatre troupe. 
 
Auditions for this group will be held throughout the year.  Current members will be required to re-audition for their place every term.

MEET: Naomi Symeou, Teacher & Instructor for Singing'SKool 

How did you know about Katterwall?
I received an email last October telling me about the 'Songs For a New World' auditions. I tried my luck, and the rest is history!
 
What do you do other than teaching at Katterwall?
I am currently directing a musical at Wah Yan's boys school which will be performed in October at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall. I do a lot of voice recording, both speech and singing so you may recognise the voice of the english Ocean Park theme song! I also perform in some shows for Chunky Onion and NoName Family Circus.
 
Naomi has taken over Singing’SKool group (9-12 yrs-old) from Bethan.  What is your plan with them this term?
This term we are working on call and response songs - songs i learnt whilst camping as a child! Our main theme this term is Old Time Music Hall so we will be having lots of fun with the famous lyrics, tunes and accents of that era.
 
What do you do at your free time?
I have recently moved to Soho, so am enjoying all the local restaurants and bars in the area. My favourite pastime is planning holidays!!
