IN FOCUS: What is Music Boot Camp? (and a little something about perfect pitch)
by Bethan Greaves (instructor)
It is for those of you out there who want to improve your ability to sight-singing – whether it’s so you can be a stronger choir member, audition with more confidence or for pure interest and enjoyment.
What Boot Camp isn’t is teaching you how to have perfect pitch (which is being able to sing an E, for example, without hearing it first). I don’t have perfect pitch, Andrew doesn’t have perfect pitch... in fact, very few people in the world have perfect pitch! It’s something you either possess or you don’t but rest assured, if you don’t have it, it doesn’t make you a lesser musician. It does mean you have to work harder on sight-reading... which is where Boot Camp comes in.
I work within the multifaceted (and glorious!) world of music theory and sight-singing, approaching it from many angles including: reading rhythms, understanding intervals, harmonising against others, score reading, listening exercises and extending musical memory.
There are two levels of Boot Camp on offer this summer. If you’re interested in finding out more, please drop us a line and we will help you decide which level would be most beneficial.
Level 1: 11th – 13th August Level 2: 18th – 20th August
