Hello and welcome to Katterwall's first newsletter. September marks the start of our new year and I can't wait to get going. 2007-08 will see fabulous concerts, a new teacher arriving, a new rehearsal space and a 'Greatest Hits' (so far) CD for Kassia Women's Choir... it's all go! Rehearsals for all groups start within the next few weeks, so if you fancy having a sing, don't forget to drop us a line!

Yours,

MEET... Emma

... a founding member of Hullaballoo and her mother, Susan.

Susan: "Every Hullaballoo performance in the past year has never failed to bring a small tear to the eye on hearing your child sing in harmony with others. The chosen music is unlike the music of your average traditional children's choir and extremely challenging. Challenging, embracing world music, pushing boundaries and uniquely Hullaballoo! And where else would you find an accompanist called Pudding?"

K: Emma, what's your favorite part of Hullaballoo?
E: "Singing!"
K: What is your favorite song to sing?
E: "Somewhere Out There" because Aiya and me always sings it at home"
K: Do you know different note names?
E: "Doh!"

IN FOCUS: Kassia Children's Choir - Hullaballoo

Hullaballoo, for ages 5 - 8, is a great way to introduce your children to music and singing. Every term we focus on different aspects of music theory, memorize and perform songs, learn to sing Sol Fa with our hands, we've even written our own song!

Rehearsals are Thursday afternoons, 4:30 - 5:30 at the YWCA on Bonham Road in Sai Ying Poon. No audition or previous musical experience is necessary and all children aged 5 - 8 are invited to join us.

Please contact Camille for more information or to enroll your child.? It's not too late to join us for the fall term!!

Thought for the day...

"Music is the purest form of art...therefore, true poets, they who are seers, seek to express the universe in terms of music. The singer has everything within him. The notes come out from his very life. They are not materials gathered from the outside."

- Rabindranath Tagore

On another note...

Q: How many altos does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. They can't get up that high.

A refreshing definition: Opera is when a bloke gets stabbed in the back and, instead of bleeding, he sings.

What's on your iPod?

From Camille Lively, Hullaballoo Choir Director and singing teacher.

My Choice: "If I Was a Boat" by Lyle Lovett

"I associate this song with my Dad who is a truly brilliant musician. He sits on the sofa with his guitar like it is just an extension of his arm and plays for hours. His music is the soundtrack of my life and this song is one that makes regular appearances."
