Dear , |
|
Occasionally we have heard about the outbreak of Listeria in ready-to-eat (RTE) meat, raw vegetables and dairy products. For instance, Centre for Food Safety (CFS) just announced a food alert on 19 April 2016 which urges public not to consume two batches of cold cuts suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. It is therefore inevitable to have the food tested for Listeria in order to ensure food safety.
Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogen that can produces harmful effects in our bodies. In most general cases, it causes gastrointestinal tract symptoms and fever. Listeria causes a disease named Listeriosis which was presumed a mortality rate approximately 24% and was found mainly among pregnant women, their fetuses, and immunocompromised persons, with symptoms of abortion, neonatal death, septicemia, and meningitis. Listeria monocytogenes in rare case can also able to infect central nervous system and in some case fatal damage to the patient.
Due to the above mentioning about the harmful effects and nature of Listeria, it is unquestionably crucial to check your food and test for Listeria monocytogenes in order to ensure quality and safety. Below table showing the CFS guideline regarding the acceptance limit for Listeria monocytogenes in RTE food for your quick reference.
