Pesticides residues in food:
The safety issue (3)

The pesticide level of food sold in Hong Kong is regulated by the Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation (Cap. 132CM).For other countries, different countries have its own food regulation to monitor the pesticides residues in food, therefore, being as an importer or exporter, it is important to know that the food being imported or exported whether meet the food regulation of particular country. The framework of the Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation (Cap. 132CM) is based on the Codex’s pesticides residues standard.

Below are the common food regulations in different country:
1. International - Codex Alimentarius: Pesticide Residues in Food and Feed
2. European Union - Pesticide EU-MRLs Regulation (EC) No 396/2005
3. Australia - Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code Chapter 1, Standard 1.4.2.
4. New Zealand - New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Food Standards 2014
5. United Kingdom - UK/EC MRL
6. United States – Part 180 – Tolerances and exemptions for pesticide chemical residues in food.
7. Japan - Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) List of Agricultural Chemicals in Foods
8.  Singapore - Sale of Food Act and the 9th Schedule in the associated Food Regulations.
9.  China - China National Food Safety Standards on Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides    in Foods (GB2763-2014)
10. Taiwan - Food Sanitation Standards (Standards for Pesticide Residue Limits in Foods)

How can food be analyzed for so many pesticide residues?
QuEChERS, stands for Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe, is a specific popular sample preparation method which was created to facilitate the rapid screening of large numbers of food and agricultural samples for pesticide residues. This multi-residue method makes it possible to test many foods for almost 200 pesticides at one time in a variety of matrices. Instruments commonly used for pesticides analysis are LC-MS/MS, GCMS and UHPLC. These instruments can be used to simultaneously monitor hundreds of pesticides residues.

For your interest, Centre for Food Safety has launched new pesticide database to search the relevant pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs) /extraneous maximum residue limits for specific “pesticide-food “pair. The Public can go to this website http://www.cfs.gov.hk/english/mrl/index.php to search by name of individual pesticides or name of individual food commodity.

食品內殘留農藥的安全問題 (3)

在香港, 食物中的殘餘農藥受《食物內除害劑殘餘規例》（第132CM章）監管, 其框架是基於法典的農藥殘留標準定立。至於其他國家; 不同國家都有自己的食品法規來規範食物上的農藥殘餘含量。

以下是部份國家對食物內農殘規例(以英文為準)：
1. 國際 - 食品法典：農藥殘留在食品及飼料
2. 歐盟 - 農藥歐盟最大殘留限量法規（EC）號396/2005
3. 澳大利亞 - 澳大利亞新西蘭食品標準法典第1章，標準1.4.2。
4. 新西蘭 - 新西蘭（農化物最大殘留限量）食品標準2014年
5. 英國 - 英國/歐盟最大殘留限量
6. 美國 - 寬容及豁免化學農藥殘留物的食品, 第180部份。
7. 日本 - 農業化學品在食品中的最大殘留限量（MRL）名單
8. 新加坡 - 銷售的食品法及附表9日在相關食品法規。
9. 中國 - 中國食品安全的最大殘留限量（MRLs）的食品中農藥殘留標準（GB2763-2014）

食物上的農藥殘餘是怎樣檢驗的？
現時農藥殘餘檢驗會先用QuEChERS (代表快速,簡便,廉價,有效,堅固,安全)技術作前期樣辦處理。此技術能幫助後期快速篩查食物上農藥殘餘。此多樣農藥殘餘檢驗方法, 能在同一時間檢驗超過200多種農藥。常用的分析儀器有液相色譜及串聯質譜，氣相色譜質譜和超超高效液相色譜。這些儀器可同時檢驗上百種農藥的殘留量。

為了協助業界和市民檢索食物裡除害劑。食物安全中心設計了除害劑最高殘餘限量資料庫. 業界和市民可在< http://www.cfs.gov.hk/tc_chi/mrl/indexc.php> 檢索合適的在《規例》附表1列明的除害劑最高殘餘限量∕最高再殘餘限量。
