Testing for Vibrio cholera
If I told you today that just one colony of bacteria, as big as a fleck of dust in a Petri dish, or a single pink strip could ruin your flourishing business in catering? Well you might've heard about a single pink strip ruining your personal life in the form of a positive pregnancy test, but let us not digress, because it could.
Vibrio could be potentially toxic even in doses far from visible with the naked eye; this is precisely why the CFS states that there must be no Vibrio cholerae at all in 25g of the food – otherwise it's deemed unacceptable and the product will have to be pulled off the shelves.
Given that the requirements are so stringent, it makes sense to have a really sensitive testing method to determine whether the product needs to be taken off the market. CHEMLAB can offer to perform routine microbiological tests on your food samples to determine whether they are contaminated with Vibrio cholerae, especially if they are high-risk foods such as seafood and fish products. We also use the best, newest, most accurate machines and our staff are highly qualified and trained to undertake extensive microbiological testing. We require that all clients provide at least a 100 gram sample for testing to ensure reliability due to the demands of our FDA-approved Vibrio cholerae testing method, which is outlined briefly in the flowchart below.
