New Committee Members 2008

The following 9 persons were elected at the AGM on 30 September 2007 to take forward the ICAA HK Members Group. Here’s a brief introduction to each committee member.

 

Jason Li (Chairman) qualified as a CA in 2000, and after spending a couple of years working at a Big 4 firm in Sydney, he moved to Hong Kong and has been here for 7 years.  He specializes in the area of Taxation and works within the Financial Services industry.  Jason has been an active member of the ICAA HK Group Committee since 2003.

Barb.JPGBarbara Yu (Secretary) qualified as a CA in 2003. Prior to her move to HK 4.5 years ago, Barbara worked in the Unit Trust & Funds Management team in MLC Ltd (part of the National Australia Bank Group) for 2 years. She was transferred to MLC in HK in 2003 where she took part in the development of new business initiatives for the NAB group in Asia. She later moved onto AXA China Region Insurance Company Limited within the marketing and communications area where she has gained substantial experience in client commnuucations and corporate branding in the Insurance Industry field. Barbara now works in Prudential  Holdings Limited as a Regional Business Analyst.

Godfrey.jpgGodfrey Ngai (committee member) qualified as a CA in 2000 and has had over 10 years of banking and accounting experiences with focus on telecommunications, media and technology. He had previously worked in the field of investment banking in Hong Kong and in a Big 4 firm in Australia and Singapore. Godfrey is currently a Private Equity Fund Manager targeting investments in the Asia Pacific region. Godfrey has been an active member of the ICAA HK Group Committee since 2003.

Sharnie Wong (committee member) qualified as a CA in 2005 and has had 5 years of experience as a tax consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney with a focus on the financial services sector. She is currently an Equities Research Analyst at ABN AMRO covering banks in the Hong Kong/China market. Sharnie has been an active member of the ICAA HK Group since 2007.

Mason Wu.JPGMason Wu (commitee member) graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and has started his career with a big 4 accounting firm in Sydney.  During that time, Mason qualified as a CA and also completed a Master of Commerce Degree in UNSW.  Since then he has worked for an Australian bank, a US bank and now working as a Senior Manager in Wing Lung Bank.  Mason is also a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Practicing Accountant (HKICPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and Financial Risk Manager (FRM).

Michael Chan (commitee member) qualified as a CA in 2005 and works for a financial institution focusing in the areas of Merger and Acquisitions and Private Equity. Prior to that, he was in financial assurance with Big 4 firms in Sydney and Hong Kong for more than 7 years.

Michael moved to Hong Kong in 2006 and has been an active member of the ICAA HK Group since then.

To celebrate the xxth anniversary of the Confederation of Australia, we have arranged an Australia Day Happy Hour Drinks celebration on 25 January at Prive [TBC], xx Hollywood Road, Hong Kong.

Spring & Forecast Dinner - 28 February 2008, Thursday

CNY.gifWe have turned our Forecast Dinner into a bigger event this year and have combined it with the Spring Dinner. We are honoured to have invited Mr Chi Lo, Head of xx  from PingAn Insurance, Mr Arthur Woo, Head of xx from Merrill Lynch, Jeff Moleski, Partner in xx from Ernst & Young to share with us their views on the Greater China economic outlook.

Rickshaw Race - 9 Dec 2007

On 9th December 2007, ICAA – Hong Kong Group sponsored $5,000 for a team in the ACCA Charity Fun Day’s Rickshaw race. The race involved pulling a rickshaw with a passenger on it and run 4 laps in Chater Road Sunday Pedestrian Precinct. This is the second year of our participation after a very successful participation last year, where our team came fifth. Our committee members along with some accounting students have participated in this year’s race and achieved a race time of 1’14"38 which was very competitive amongst 36 teams.

  Chairman's Visit to Hong Kong- 16/17th March 2008

Mr Arkell was appointed President in January 2008, served as Deputy President in 2007 and has been a Director since January 2004. He joined the Institute in July 1987 and advanced to Fellowship in September 1998. Mr Arkell is chairman of the Executive Review Committee, joint chairman of the Joint Standing Committee and a member of the Nominations Committee. Mr Arkell’s Board portfolio is the Corporate Advisory Committee.

Mr Arkell will be visiting Hong Kong on 16th and 17th March. A welcoming function will be hosted during his stay in HK. More information about the function will be emailed to you in due course. Watch out!
