由一月開始，中國中部及南部出現50年來最嚴重的雪災。聯合國兒童基金會為了協助處於水深火熱中的災民，於農曆新年前夕展開一連串的籌款活動，並在受災較嚴重的省份，包括湖南、湖北、廣西及貴州即時展開救災活動，為受災村民提供厚棉被及禦寒衣物。

2月14日，聯合國兒童基金香港委員會扺達廣西西北部的凌雲縣朝里瑤族鄉，進行第二批的物資派發。雪災期間，氣溫大約只有零下4至5度。朝里鄉的路及農地全被冰封，前往當地非常困難。

春節後天氣雖然慢慢開始回暖，就沿途所見，早前被冰封的路、河流／水源、農地，都已經融化、直至現時，電力供應才局部恢復。表面上朝里瑤族鄉的鄉民的生活開始回復正常，但其實今次的雪災令到他們的農作物失收，就像李正華一家就十分擔心他們往後的生計。他表示：「我們一家一直以種甘蔗為生，但雪災／霜凍令甘蔗凍壞，無法製成蔗糖賣錢，日後生活不知怎過。」

聯合國兒童基金會將繼續為受災地區進行扶貧工作，恢復醫療，為兒童提供疫苗及營養服務，並協助重建破壞的學校，讓兒童能盡快重返校園。

From January, the mainland's worst snow storms have caused havoc across Central and Southern China. Many provinces including Anhui, Guizhou, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Jiangxe, Zhejiang and Shangxi are badly affected. UNICEF has started the relief effort before the Lunar New Year, distributing relief materials to the victims in Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Guangxi.

The lives of villages are getting normal. But the snow storm destroyed their fields. In Guangxi, sugar cane and cigarettes glass are farmer's main sources of income. But the snow storm destroyed their sugar cane and they can't sell for good money. They keep livestock too, but many died in the snow storm. Their lives are badly affected.

UNICEF will continue the relief and recovery works in the affected provinces, such as to assist to resume education by rebuilding destroyed schools. Besides, UNICEF will focus on recovering the medical services such as immunization and providing nutrients supplements to the children in remote villages.
