EN71-1:2011+A3:2014 Safety of toys - Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties & EN71-2:2011+A1:2014 Safety of toys - Part 2: Flammability were officially announced to be the harmonized standards under the framework of implementation of Directive 2009/48/EC on 2014-Jun-13.
We are ready to provide testing service for these two most updated versions with our regular testing turnaround time in 3 working days.
The main changes between the new version of EN71-2 are as follow:
- Highly flammable liquids contained in chemical toys, and in olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games, as defined in 2009/48/EC would be exempted.
- Per clauses 5.5 and 5.5.4 : Apply the test flame to the toy for (3 +/- 0,5)sec so that the distance between the edge of the burner tube and the toy is approximately 5mm and the test flame makes contact between 20mm and 50mm above the lower edge of te most flammable material of the toy, as predetermined, and is not less than 120mm from the top surface of the toy.

Uses of Nickel would be permitted in toys with according to the EU Commission 2014/84/EU
On 2014-June-30, EU published an Official Journal to amend the appendix A of Annex II to Directive 2009/48/EC. According to the amendment, Nickel would be permitted to use in the following conditions
- In toys and toy component made of stainless steel.
- In toy component which are intended to conduct an electric current.
Member states shall apply those provisions from 2015-July-1.
