Meeting Mayor Kenoi

We met with Hawaii County Mayor Kenoi and discussed opportunities on how Hong Kong, China, and Hawaii could co-operate in the areas of cultural exchange and development.  Mayor Kenoi also shared our joy in the phenomenal growth of the Hong Kong International Hula Association over the past years and our upcoming 5th Anniversary Celebration to be held on October 27 in Hong Kong.

Many thanks to Mayor Kenoi for spending the time with us and introducing us to your specialists in Tourism and Economic Development Departments !

International Waikiki Hula Conference

Pua, or flowers in Hawaiian, was the theme of this year's International Waikiki Hula Conference, which took place from May 11 to 13 at the Hawaii Convention Center.  Different flowers and lei, such as the Pikaki, Carnation and Mamane, were vividly brought to life as over 30 kumu hula shared their dances and associated stories with us.

Mahalo to Tony, our photographer, for taking some stunning pictures of the Conference for us to share with members.

Hula Beauty Competition

Fifty-four Hawaiian beauties gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the 12 of this month to be dressed up by teams from 18 cities in Japan before presenting their hula at the Royal Grove in Waikiki for the 2012 Hula Beauty Competition.

Though our team did not win one of the two prizes, everyone enjoyed the event in the spirit of aloha and was amazed at the creativity of the make-up artists !
