Practising for the Queen Lili'uokalani Festival on the Big Island of Hawaii
We have arranged for our International Member, Devin, to join a group of teachers from Japan to refine their knowledge of hula from Kumu Rae and practise for the Queen Lili'uokalani Festival.
After a full day of dancing several hulas, including Liliu E and Waikiki, the group listened to the history and tradition of the Hawaiian lei retold by the kumu in the evening. The team were up till 3:30 am making the haku leis for the ho'okupu.
The Japanese ladies were very impressed with what they learnt.
We also found the kumu to be so wise, sincere and giving.
We should like to support our members to advance their knowledge and skills of hula and the Hawaiian culture. Please tell us your needs by sending your enquiry to
