Hong Kong International Hula Association Newsletter January 2009

Kung Hei Fat Choy

If you happen to be on the Big Island of Hawaii, you are welcome to join the Tong Wo Society in Halawa, North Kohala, to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Sunday, February 8th, 2009 from 10 am to 2 pm.  Bring a potluck dish to share for lunch.

Year of the Ox

The basic characteristics of an Ox is methodical, calm, modest, hardworking, dependable and patient, yet materialistic and ambitious.  The year of the Ox will bear fruit, but the motto is: "No pain, no gain!"

So remember to practise the basic steps of hula every day.  Cherish life; care for your family and love your neighbour.

HKIHA would like to wish all her members and friends a prosperous Year of the Ox!

Hula instructor's class

The first hula instructor's class taught by Kumu Noelani started on 31st January.  Susanna, our International Member from Sydney, flew to Hong Kong to join the event.

This was truly a landmark event to have a kumu from Hawaii to teach an international class in Hong Kong.  Members who wish to join the instructor's class would need to first master the basics of hula.  If you are interested in registering for the next class, please contact HKIHA at (852) 6602 0201.
