Mouton Rothschild was the first to bottle all the wine on the estate, and employed artisits to create labels for each vintage include Miró, Chagall, Picasso and Warhol. In 1973, Baron Philippe de Rothschild achieved his mission to have Mouton upgraded to first-growth status, which is the only change has ever occurred to the 1855 classification.
Since his death in 1988, his daughter Philippine succeeded the estate and continued his legacy ensuring the excellence of Mouton, and deepening the link between the superb, opulent wine and art. Unfortunatly, she passed away in 2014. Now her three children unite in their commitment to enhanced the lustre of Mouton Rothschild.

"A sensational effort, the 2006 Mouton Rothschild exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a classic Mouton perfume of creme de cassis, flowers, blueberries, and only a hint of oak...This utterly profound Mouton will need to sleep for 15+ years before it will reveal any secondary nuances, but it is a packed and stacked first-growth Pauillac of enormous potential...

"Here, it has those graphite and cedar aromas present and correct, the former a little more accentuated and with a light sea-spray note emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with cedar and a slight peat-like note infusing the black fruit, rigid in its youth but nicely delineated... "

"There is obviously greater fruit intensity here, as if the contrast has been dialed up a couple of notches. It is quite showy on the nose, preening in its infancy with pure black cherries, graphite and hints of cold slate-like scents, later that hint of seaweed I observed when tasted blind a few months earlier. The palate is beautifully balanced with great vim and vigor... Do not underestimate this Mouton-Rothschild, because I can see an upswing as it matures in bottle."
