Domaine du Pegau - Super Star of Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is well-known for its complex blend (thirteen authorized varietals can be used) and its distinctive wine characters: full-bodied, rich textured with concentrated spiced red fruit flavours balanced with high alcohol. Many of the best sites in Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation have very stony soils that absorb heat from the sun and warm the vineyards, aiding ripening of the fruits. This type of soil is perfect for Grenache.

Domaine du Pegau is one of the oldest domaines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It was founded in the 17th century by the Feraud Family. Pegau is regarded as the leading domaine for traditional style and age-worthy Chateauneuf-du-pape in this large and prestigious appellation. It is now run by Laurence who is brilliant and born with natural talent in wine making. With her incredible talent, almost every vintage's Pegau is sought after by wine lovers. No wonder Robert Parker spares no space to write such long reviews to praise its wines. Domaine du Pegau makes no compromises, nor changes their winemaking or upbringing styles to suit the whims of the fickle consumer.

At Pegau, grapes are  hand harvested, then fermented without being de-stemmed. No fining or filtration is carried out. Cuvee Reserve is aged for around 18 months in large old barrels and Cuvee Laurence is made from a blend identical to the Cuvee Reserve, but is aged for another 18-24 months prior to bottling. It is only produced in very good years. Cuvee du Capo is a special cuvee released only in the best vintages, mostly from “La Crau” (the best terroirs of Chateauneuf). All thirteen varietals are included in the blend, and it was aged up to 36 months in a mixture of large and small oak barrels and primarily from old vines (100+-year-old). Rich, robust and concentrated, tend to show at their best with 7-8 years of bottle age. Wow, wouldn't you want to have some?!

HKD $750.00

"The bottled 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is as compelling as I thought it would be after tasting it last year...The opaque purple-colored 2009 exhibits magnificent, rich berry fruit intertwined with cedar, Christmas fruitcake, licorice...and god knows what else. It is an amazingly complex, rich, full-throttle wine that reminds me somewhat of what the 1990 tasted like in 1994/1995. It is a magnificent Chateauneuf du Pape..." - Robert Parker

HKD $830.00
HKD $1,660.00 (MG size)
"Looking at the 2010s and a brilliant vintage for Laurence, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape offers up classic Pegau aromas and flavors of ripe dark fruits, garrigue, cured meats, tobacco leaf, saddle leather and hints of game. Full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, it offers a seamless, layered profile on the palate with thrilling mid-palate depth, sweet, yet substantial tannin, and a blockbuster finish that stays fresh and beautifully focused. Quite polished by this estates standards, it nevertheless screams southern France and I doubt it’s possible to have too much of this beauty in the cellar. It will absolutely thrill over the coming 2-3 decades. Drink 2016-2030..." - Robert Parker

HKD $1,125.00
"The 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence is terrific, and is certainly the finest release since the ’98 and ’01. The same blend as the classic cuvee (85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and other varieties), it spent a full 48 months in old foudre prior to bottling. Gorgeously complex, with soaring garrigue, saddle leather, beef blood, iron and distinct minerality, this beauty is full-bodied, rich and layered on the palate, with a massive amount of fruit and tannin. Intense, Provencal, layered and decadent, enjoy this beauty over the coming 10-15 years." - Robert Parker
