In the past few months, we have seen exciting
changes in our centre with the introduction of our new health screening centre
to provide a one-stop comprehensive health screening services. At
the same time, we have upgraded our Neo-Lab diagnostic service with Beckman
Coulter immuno-analyzer.
The Beckman Coulter Access 2 Analyzer using Bio-Rad
GS HIV Combo Ag/Ab EIA kit which is FDA-approved 4th generation
HIV detection essay. Published data shown sensitivity was 100% in known antibody positive samples and HIV p24
antigen detection was 100%. Specificity was 99.9% in low risk, 99.9% in high
risk and 100% in pediatric populations. Together with our existing bioMérieux
Vidas system, Neo-Lab is currently providing HIV combo tests which are both CE
and FDA approved.
The Beckman Coulter analyzer also
enables us to provide a full range of reproductive hormones, cancer markers and
anemia assessment to support our health screening services.
However, despite the improvement
in our diagnostic services, the fight against HIV does not stop in
here. The number of new cases detected in the last month has
significantly increased compared to the previous months. Continuing our effort
in disease prevention, we have a new Program Manager – Mr Steve Willcox who is
a New Zealander who had worked extensively in community prevention programs in
Australia and obtained his Master in Family Therapy and Relationship
Counselling from the University of Hong Kong. Steve is also providing
individual and couple counseling services among our team of counselors and
psychologists.
