Civic Exchange Research Project: An index For Asian
Cities Monitor Wellbeing--Focus Group--Invitation Civic Exchange is scoping a new project: an index for
Asian cities to monitor wellbeing. The purpose of the project is not
merely to create an index but to use the index as a tool to stimulate
discussion amongst people in Asian cities about the quality of development
in their cities and what wellbeing means to them.
Why is the project important?
The scale and speed of
urbanization in Asia is unprecedented and
Asians want to improve their livelihood and wellbeing. There are many indices
developed by different institutions to measure the performance of countries and
cities. While they provide useful snapshots, indices could be even more useful
if they could generate dialogue within and across communities to enable them to
reflect on how they live, as well as to compare their level of well-being with
other communities.
How can you help?
The Research project is going to
host a focus group with our members and get your feedback on their initial
research on wellbeing and indicis and on these types of questions like:
l
Is “wellbeing” the best
terminology or is there a better term (e.g. “liveability”, “quality of life”,
or “happiness”)?
l
Are existing indices adequate for
measuring wellbeing in your city?
l
Would a wellbeing index stimulate
useful debate and discussion in your city?
The Focus Group will be conducted in Chinese on 2/11/2011 (Tue) at 6:30-8:00PM in Civic Exchange Office, RM701, Hoseinee House, 69 Wyndham Street,
Central.
