‘THE PROMISED LAND’

Fortissimo to collaborate with Revolution Films on political thriller starring

Berlin, February 12^th, 2010 , Fortissimo Films and Revolution Films announced today an agreement by which Fortissimo will handle worldwide sales dutiesTHE PROMISED LAND, the upcoming film from acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom (THE KILLER INSIDE ME, A MIGHTY HEART, THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO, 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE), written by Winterbottom and Laurence Coriat (WONDERLAND, ME WITHOUT YOU). Casting is under way with Oscar® nominee Colin Firth (A SINGLE MAN), Jim Sturgess ( 21, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE) and Matthew Macfadyen (FROST/NIXON, PRIDE & PREJUDICE) attached to star. Filming is scheduled for late Summer with deliver in mid 2011. A political crime-thriller set in British ruled Palestine at the end of World War II, THE PROMISED LAND deals with a pivotal and oft debated period in the region’s history covering the events leading up to the formation of the State of Israel.

The announcement at this year’s EFM comes as Winterbottom presents his new film THE KILLER INSIDE ME, screening In Competition at the Berlinale. This international premiere follows its highly successful world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The deal for THE PROMISED LAND reunites Fortissimo and Andrew Eaton’s Revolution Films, having previously worked together on the 2006 Berlinale opener, SNOW CAKE.

On making the announcement Fortissimo’s Chairman Michael J. Werner commented “This is one of the most gripping and powerful scripts I have read in a long time. Synopsis : THE PROMISED LAND is a police-thriller set in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem during the British Mandate era in Palestine. It tells the gripping true story of two British police officers THOMAS WILKIN, played by Jim Sturgess, and GEOFFREY MORTON, played by Matthew Macfadyen and their battle to bring to an end the campaign of bombings and assassinations by the extreme right-wing Jewish underground led by the charismatic poet, AVRAHAM STERN. The film culminates when the two policemen track Stern down to his apartment hide-out in Tel Aviv on

Mizrachi Street in 1942.
