Set in 1930’s Formosa – now Taiwan - WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE tells the true story of the Wushe Incident in which aboriginal Seediq tribe warrior Mouna Rudo led his people to rebel against the Japanese occupation. Rudo’s men of 300 fought with ancient gun, spears and minimal weaponry and seeking to reclaim their land, their dignity and their honor, they took on the Japanese army of 3000 for two weeks….

Taiwanese director Wei Te-sheng rose to fame in 2008 with his debut feature, CAPE NO.7, which was the grossing local film ever.  The huge success of CAPE NO.7 enabled him to return to WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE, a dream project that he has prepared for more than 12 years.
WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE had a budget of NT$700 million (US$24.29 million), a cast of 15,000, and a technical production crew of 400 drawn from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.
John Woo, Terence Chang and Taiwan’s Jimmy Huang are producing, while the cast includes native aboriginal Taiwanese actors along with Japanese star Ando Masanobu (Takashi Miike’s SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO; Takeshi Kitano’s KIDS RETURN ) and Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu (Jackie Chan’s THE ACCIDENTAL SPY). The film has been selected for Competition at the 2011 Venice International Film Festival.
