Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery and Gallery by the Harbour are proud to present the “Color‧Euphoria” Contemporary Art Exhibition, featuring internationally well-know artist, David Gerstein, renowned contemporary Chinese ink artists, Lam Tian Xing, and Hui Yan Ki at Gallery by the Harbour from 1 to 19 Jun 2016. The artists’ brilliance in color amalgamation speaks for the passion and love of art, enabling audience to feel their mysterious soul.
David Gerstein is one of the most creative and well-known artist today. In the exhibition, we present one of his most classic series – birds and flowers sculptures. He seeks to expand the limits of two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional sculptures. In his choice of subject matter he wishes to break down the existing barriers between the work of art and its audience by creating enchanted and straightforward images, which render, at times, intimate, dream-like naïve scenes and at other times, cinemascope-like, large scale, choreographed events. He is most famously for his public arts. We can see his sculptures all around the world, including Germany, Korea, and Taiwan etc. One of his most famous work, an 18-meter-high painted steel outdoor sculpture called “Momentum,” is installed in Singapore’s central business district. Representing his strong and persistent and yet an optimistic attitude.
Lam Tian Xing harmoniously blended the traditional framework of Chinese ink color paintings with bold western techniques in rich and vibrant colors, with layered images that are both abstract and concrete. The exhibition will showcase Lam’s favorite subject – lotus. He said, the connections between the lotus and Buddha religion are inextricable and that they are symbols of holy and purity. He began studying Western and Chinese paintings in 1978 under the guidance of masters such as Wu Gouguang, Lin Guang, Chen Ting and Liu Mu. He has participated more than one hundred joint exhibitions around the globe. Many of the exhibitions are the most representative and significant ones, e.g. Centennial Exhibition of Chinese Paintings in Beijing, China National Art Exhibition, Art Exhibition Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Reform and Opening, International Ink Painting Biennial Exhibition of Shenzhen, and Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition. Lam’s paintings, “Morning Songs” and “Sideview in Victoria Harbour”, have accompanied the space shuttles of the Shenzhou VI and Shenzhou VII in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
Hui Yan Ki was awarded a scholarship by the American Freeman Foundation to study art creation in the United States in 1997. In 2009, he received the Master of Art from the Fujian Normal University School of Art. Hui adores Western classical and impressionist painting. He practiced drawing under the tutelage of famous artists when young and majored in oil painting at university. An effective fusion of the freehand brushwork of traditional Chinese painting and the emphasis on color and fine brushwork of Western painting produces a unique technique and style that combines the spirituality and elegance of Chinese ink paintings with the light and color of Western oil paintings. Together with a style that is "like water, clouds and mist" evokes an association of aesthetics with meditation and gives viewers a kind of dreamlike and yet refreshing feeling. Hui's works have frequently been on display in Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo and have been included in the collections of many art galleries, museums and private collectors. In this exhibition, his latest works have shown the tranquility, warmth and beauty in life which creates an interesting contrast with Lam Tian Xing’s lotus.
