Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery is pleased to present Youth Sonata – Hong Kong Young Artist Contemporary Oil Painting Exhibition, a joint exhibition supported by Hong Kong Oil Painting Research Society that features works by eight young contemporary artists: Flora Chow, Lui Wa, Sung Ka Yan, Wu Chun Yin, Evgenia Knyazeva (Russian), Dmitry Timofeev (Russian), John Harmon (Australian) and Grayson Vario (Australian). Sonata, from Latin: sonare, means "to sound" in music, literally means a piece played. These eight artists each have a unique and fresh way of looking at the world and translating their revelation onto canvas. The exhibition will be held from July 20 – Aug 10 2016 and opening reception will be held on July 22 (Friday) 2016, 5 – 7 pm.
About the artists:
Wu Chun Yin’s well defined technique can be seen from his most honest and direct realism towards surrounding items: the wrinkles of a thin plastic bag of quilt, reflection of scales on a fresh fish, and intrinsic sunlight of a home environment.
In Sung Ka Yan’s eyes, Hong Kong people are portrayed as being kidnapped by materialism and such harshness and pressure need an immediate exit. Youths escape the reality by relying on drugs, electronic devices and internet. Eventually, they lose faith and beliefs in such vicious cycle. What is the meaning of life?
Lui Wa’s solid and pure depiction of forest has led us return to the centre and essence of the matter itself. A sense of classicism could be found in the composition and the usage of warm colors.
Flora Chow’s landscape depicts the very detailed and delicate beauty of the nature, exposing a feminist elegance that could only be found within her tender and subtle brush strokes.
Evgenia Knyazeva and Dmitry Timofeev, both from Russia. Their works are filled with exotic style and colors. We will see strange yet attractive mixture of nature and myth.
The two artists from Australia, John Harmon and Grayson Vario, have taken a cartoonist approach in their paintings in view of the western idealism in influencing globalization. They attempt to explore the multiple social aspects through those images.
The exhibition gathers eight brilliant artists from local as well as overseas, trying to unravel and understand their ideologies from different backgrounds and generation. We are looking forward to your visit.
