香港天趣畫廊舉辦香港畫家的水墨作品展“墨韻天趣”，是值得稱譽的藝界盛事。展出的畫家都在水墨領域卓有成就，是筆墨藝術的大家，這次齊聚一堂，展示他們在創作領域的探索，漪歟盛哉，也是香港值得驕傲的盛會。
水墨畫是中國美術傳統中最具特色，並顯示中國藝術追求的強項，反映了中國文化的審美情趣與境界。中國是世界上最早使用紙筆的文化區，也一直善於利用適於紙筆的水墨表達方式，經歷了世世代代藝術家的孜孜追求，加之以士大夫文人嚮往的文化情趣，創造了人類文化史上極其獨特而優美的藝術領域。水墨藝術的弘揚與發展，是中國人在現代化過程中，受到西洋藝術衝擊之時，必須而且可以通過文化反思，結合中西美術的優良傳統，開創嶄新局面的藝術挑戰與新機。香港華洋雜處，東西文化相互碰撞、吸收與調適，作為“新水墨”的重鎮，更提供了香港藝術家大展宏圖的契機。
祝願“墨韻天趣”展覽成功，更祝願二十一世紀的中國新水墨，通過這幾位參展的水墨大家的作品，百尺竿頭，更進一步，在世界上大放異彩。

Brush and Ink Paintings in Hong Kong

The exhibition of “Heavenly Taste of Brush and Ink” organized by Tianqu Gallery (HK) is a significant and praiseworthy event. The painters in this exhibition are all famous and reputable artists in Hong Kong. It is certainly a splendored event to gather their creative energies in this exhibition, of which Hong Kong should feel proud.
Brush and ink painting is the most unique genre in Chinese art tradition. It manifests a special artistic pursuit to reveal the Chinese aesthetic and cultural taste. As both rice paper and Chinese brush were invented in China since ancient times, Chinese artists had gone through a long tradition to develop the unique art, particularly in pursuit of the way to incorporate and imbue with the spiritual state of cultural equilibrium as cultivated by the literati scholars. With ceaseless efforts in artistic creation by generations of painters, the genre of Chinese brush and ink painting has established its reputed status in art history and greatly contributed to world civilization.
The further development of Chinese brush and ink painting in the 21th century poses an artistic challenge for modern Chinese painters whose lives are remoulded by the drastic process of Westernization. For Hong Kong painters in particular, living in an international entrepot which blends cultures from East and West and helps start the “New Brush and Ink” movement, it is not only an artistic challenge, but also a great opportunity to create something new and significant for future generations.
May I wish the great success for this exhibition, and a new blooming of Chinese brush and ink painting.
