After Somewhere Within the Distance in June, 2016 and Memory‧Meteor in National Art Museum China in January, 2018, Art of Nature now proudly presents Xu Chenyang’s solo oil painting exhibition Circle‧Rules, featuring his crucial works in “Memory Meteor” and “Shadow” series. Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, 5 October 2018, 5-8pm, and a 1-hour art seminar starting from 5:30pm with prominence curator Ms. Han Qi as the Emcee, guest speakers Mr. Peng Feng, the philosopher, aesthetician and vice president of The School of Arts, Peking University, and Associated Professor Zhou Jin, Department of Fine Arts, CUHK and Professor Kevin Tsui, Department of Economics, Clemson University. The exhibition can be viewed until October 31st.
Life is like a circle. A circle embodies the endless life in Chinese philosophy. Circle is always realized as an integral part of life in art. Chinese artists attempt to unfold the infinity, present the moment and the eternity in their art creation. The “Memory‧Meteor” series displayed in the National Art Museum China earlier this year will be showcased in this exhibition. The circles in “Memory Meteor” series are independent, with angular-shaped organisms inside. The outer part is rounded and it seems to be soft, yet the inner force accumulates and feels like to collapse and ready to burst any time. No matter how much memories you keep in mind, they are like meteors flashing by in the universe. Xu always hopes that his art can be far away from the reality so as to reject the erosion by secularity on his paintings. His mind has always been unconsciously keeping a distance for everything. A circle seems to be the most docile image. In fact, it is most suitable for creating distance. It is the least angular, but the easiest to keep distance with other objects. ”Circle” represents Xu’s nature and attitude. “Circle” is the external manifestation of Memory Meteor series, while “Rules” is the intrinsic quality of Shadow series. Such relation between circle and rules affirms Xu’s philosophy and unique painting technique. “Circle” and “Rules” build the order and fixity in his artworks, and also embody his thoughts and personal style of painting. No matter circle or rules, things develop in their own ways. The two different series form a “Moving - Calming” equipoise state, which is memorable and meaningful.
In this harvesting season, also the 6th anniversary of Art of Nature Contemporary Gallery and the gallery expansion celebration, you are most welcome to Circle‧Rules - Xu Chenyang Oil Painting Exhibition and enjoy the visual feast with us!
