Hi [FIRSTNAME] [LASTNAME],

Thanks for your sincere support to NoClone. We would like to share some tips and news with you.

Application

Consolidate backups / data files

Scenario: Say, you have a set of old data files, backups of folders (or whole hard drives). Now you have a new hard drive and want to consolidate all data into one master set.

Challenge: You want to merge or consolidate old data files into one master hard drive.

Solution:

  1. With NoClone, find and remove all duplicate files across folders and hard dirve:
    • To add more paths: In search panel, click "Browse" > "Add more path(s)" > "Add"
  2. Use Smart marker to remove duplicates by folder e.g. in old hard drive path or old folder paths
  3. Use SaveSpace to delete old duplicates while keeping latest master copies.
  4. Merge all your files into one set:
Vista: You can move with folder structure, Vista will prompt you to merge folders with the same name.
Older Windows version: Windows Explorer will replace your folders and files inside, so you have to use xcopy instead. In command prompt:
xcopy [src] [dest] /s/e (with directory structure)
but cannot handle file name collision in destination folder.

Warning: Work on data files only. Please do this cautiously, review duplicate data files result carefully before removal.

(A simialar case: Consolidate backups by Search Target and Search Area)

Customer's Comments: Mcolanhis program gives me the tools needed to quickly identify the duplicate files, which is an important step in consolidating information. The storage space is an issue, but the real benefit to me is being able to find what I need faster than before, because there is less to search. (full comment)

Tip

NoClone NoClone protects you from deleting system files by mistakes

NoClone has sufficient protection on your system files. First, there’s “Exclude Path” to let you exclude those folders or file extensions you are not suppose to scan, delete, or perform any action on. By default, NoClone would exclude your “C:\Program Files\*.*”, “C:\Windows\*.*”, those hidden folders and files, and system folders.

Also, if you uncheck the option “Protect system folders”, NoClone would alert you to confirm before any action. (Screenshot)

FAQ

Q1: How is Home edition different from Enterprise?

A: Yes, 3 network paths and No for unlimited local paths. A difference between Enterprise and Home versions is that home is limited to 3 network paths when searching/comparing.  You add unlimited local paths e.g. hard drives but limited to 3 network paths which is enough for home environment.

Edition Home Enterprise
Network paths 3 unlimited
Local paths (hard drives, removable media) unlimited unlimited
No. of files in a search 300,000 unlimited

Q2: How do I know if some files have not been included in the comparison as there is a maximum comparison of 300,000 files with Home version?

A: If you have more than 300,000 files in a single search, NoClone will show this as error. Click on error log to see.

Q3: How do I share the findings with my colleagues or keep a record for future analysis?

A: NoClone can export your search results to .xml, .xls, or .csv by clicking Export Results Button. You can save the file as either of three file formats: Comma Seperated Values, Excel or XML file.
