Ms. Sin obtained LLB degree at the University of Hong Kong in 1996 and took up the post of Lecturer (Law) at the Vocational Training Council.  In May 1997, Ms. Sin joined the Hong Kong Government and had been posted to different departments.  Her last posting in the HKSAR Government was Assistant Departmental Secretary, Discipline & Access to Information Section, Social Welfare Department from 2002 to 2007.  During which time, she was also the Deputy Data Protection Officer in SWD.  She has extensive knowledge and experience in handling privacy related issues in the public sector.  Ms. Sin has been teaching law subjects at the Vocational Training Council as part-time lecturer from 1997 to 2003.  In July 2008, Ms. Sin joined the School of Continuing & Professional Studies, the Chinese University of Hong Kong as part-time Instructor (Law).  Ms. Sin was called to Bar in May 2008 and joined the Fortune Chambers in Oct 2008.

 

Course Objective:

The 3-hour seminar aims to build an understanding of the essential concepts in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and to share some practical tips with practitioners of accessing personal/non-personal data under the existing legal framework.  Relevant case law will be discussed.  The recent controversy sparked off in the society and the debate about the change in the PDPO will be covered.
