Hams from Spain have attracted international attention due to the country’s unique climate which benefits the pigs’ growth and ham production. These richly fragrant hams are not only appetizing, but are also regarded as art by Spaniards to heighten the public’s visual and olfactory senses. Each slice of ham cut by the ham master exhibits the elegance of Spanish culture. To promote Spanish food culture, the Spanish Trade Commission will hold the II Hong Kong Iberico Ham Slicing Competition on May 12th (Thursday) at the biannual HOFEX in the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center. We hereby cordially invite trade friends to come witness the new generation of “Spanish Ham Slicing Master” together.
Continuing on the previous year’s spectacular results, the II Hong Kong Iberico Ham Slicing Competition this year has attracted representatives from 11 Hong Kong major Spanish restaurants and food companies, including Benson, FoFo, La Bodega, Mesa 15, Pata Negra, Spanish Pantry, Uno Màs and Viva Ana. The 2009 champion for the first ever Spanish Ham slicing competition, City’Super, will also participate again to compete for first place. Spanish ham slicing technique demands very high standards and hence this event will invite the Senior Trade Commissioner, famous food critic and Spanish ham expert as judges to evaluate the participants’ posture of slicing, thickness and size of slice, speed, presentation creativity — all important elements for victory. The competition will surely be fierce and exciting!
This year’s HOFEX will be held between May 11th to 14th. The Spain exhibition will occupy 8,400 square feet to exhibit Spanish wines, hams, olive oils, and other such delicacies. The Commission will also arrange for many important VIPs to host a series of seminars and tastings, featuring wines paired with hams, cheese and Dim Sum, as well as Tapas cooking demonstrations and other such spectacular programs. Visitors will get to know all aspects of Spain’s expansive food culture, so gourmet food lovers should not miss out! (Please find the "Program of Activities" from the bottom of the Attachment , who are interested in attending please reply)The Spanish Trade Commission will also launch the "Spanish Cuisine" recipe book and “Hong Kong Spanish Foods & Wines Importers Directory 2011” during HOFEX. Each participants will receive a copy of these books.
