R.Parker Tasting Note:
The brilliant 2010 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau La Fontaine is aged in a combination
of tank and 600-liter demi-muids. Off the charts concentration and a bigger than life personality
characterize this inky/purple-colored Rasteau. Notes of truffles, camphor, chocolate, kirsch, blackberries,
roasted meats and bouquet garni emerge from this full-bodied, multidimensional effort. It is one
of the finest Rasteaus I tasted on my tour through the southern Rhone Valley.  Bravo!!

Domaine Le Clos du Caillou , Southern Rhone
What  Mr. Robert Parker described about the Domaine:

This estate, which encompasses considerable acreage, produces Cotes du Rhones and Chateauneuf du Papes.
It has nearly 25 acres in the former appellation as well as a remarkable 42 acres in the actual clos (or walled vineyard) of Caillou.
Part of that is only 500 meters from the Rayas vineyard. The cellars and the clos are located in the eastern/northeastern
sector of the appellation. The vineyards have been biodynamically farmed since 2003, and Domaine du Caillou is one of
the reference points for Chateauneuf du Pape as well as Cotes du Rhone. Much of the credit for this must go to proprietress
Sylvie Vacheron, who lost her husband in a tragic traffic accident in 2001. Along with her two daughters and her assistants,
Bruno Gaspard and Aude Perch as well as consulting oenologist Philippe Cambie, Sylvie continues to produce an enviable
portfolio of world-class wines. The Cotes du Rhone are Provencal in style. As for the Chateauneuf du Papes, they have hit home
runs with all their 2011s. Sylvie Vacheron told me that their terroir within the clos is actually one of the most precocious in
Chateauneuf du Pape, and their harvest often occurs at least two weeks before some of the cooler terroirs of the appellation.
That’s somewhat mind-boggling when you realize that Chateauneuf du Pape is not that large. The 2010 Cotes du Rhones are
all marvelous wines. The three 2010 Chateauneuf du Papes are stunning. Readers should not forget about Domaine du
Caillou’s white wines, which continue to go from strength to strength.

Information:
"Indian Summer", without precipitation, gave us the opportunity to harvest extremely healthy grapes
to perfect maturity.  The wines are concentrated, fruity, with good acidity, not unlike the
Solar character vintages 2009 and 2000.  This wine is produced with the parcels within
the Clos a place called "The Stone."

The assembly is composed of four varieties:
90% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre and 2% Counoise.

Tasting Note:
This wine has a beautiful deep red color, with hints purple and blue.  Expressive nose with aromas of blackberry,
violet, jam of Acerola Berry (small apple), combined with spices.  The palate is very present, revealing a beautiful
structure with aromas of wild plum sauce, slightly milky notes, with flavors caramel with salted butter. 
This wine is very pleasant to drink now to 2016.

Agreement: Thinly duck with black fruit, sausage brioche apron of sapper, lamb kidneys
deglazed with raspberry vinegar.

Tasting note by Robert Parker: As for the red wines, first and foremost is Guigal’s Cotes du Rhone.
I re-tasted the 2010 Cotes du Rhone, which is still in foudre. This cuvee is typically a blend of 50%
Syrah and the rest Grenache and perhaps some Mourvedre. Guigal is known throughout the Rhone
Valley for paying the highest price for generic Cotes du Rhone, and that in large part explains the
quality of this wine year in and year out. It enjoys an extended upbringing in foudre and stainless
 steel tanks and is always a dense ruby/purple-colored wine with lots of blue and black fruits
intermixed with notions of kirsch, licorice, lavender and spice. Supple and surprisingly intense,
this delicious effort can age for 4-5 years.  Ready to drink from 2012-2017
